BRD2 유전자는 BET (bromodomains and extra terminal domain) 단백질군에 속하는 전사 조절 인자를 암호화합니다. 이 단백질은 전사 복합체 및 유사분열 중 아세틸화된 크로마틴과 결합하며, 두 개의 bromodomain을 통해 히스톤 H4의 아세틸화된 lysine-12 잔기에 선택적으로 결합합니다.
이 유전자는 염색체 6p21.3의 MHC class II 영역에 위치하지만, 면역 반응에는 관여하지 않는 것으로 알려져 있습니다. 또한, 청소년기 근간대성 간질과 관련이 있으며, 여러 대체 스플라이싱 변이가 보고되었습니다.
