E-Cadherin (epithelial cadherin)은 칼슘 의존성 세포-세포 접착을 매개하는 고전적 카드헤린으로, cadherin superfamily에 속합니다. 이 단백질은 5개의 세포외 cadherin 반복, 막관통 영역, 그리고 보존된 세포질 꼬리를 포함하는 당단백질입니다.
이 유전자의 돌연변이는 위암, 유방암, 대장암, 갑상선암, 난소암 등과 관련이 있으며, E-Cadherin 기능 상실은 세포 증식, 침윤, 전이 증가를 통해 암 진행에 기여할 수 있습니다.
E-Cadherin은 세포 성장과 발달에서 조직 구조 유지 및 무결성에 중요한 역할을 하며, 인간에서는 CDH1 유전자(16번 염색체)에 의해 암호화됩니다.
