Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the highly conserved cyclin family, characterized by periodic changes in protein abundance during the cell cycle. Cyclins act as regulators of CDK kinases. Cyclin D3 forms a complex with CDK4 or CDK6, playing a key role in the G1/S transition of the cell cycle. It interacts with and phosphorylates the tumor suppressor protein Rb. CDK4 activity associated with this cyclin is necessary for progression through G2 phase into mitosis after UV radiation. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified. Diseases associated with CCND3 include Retinoblastoma and Plasma Cell Leukemia.
