Target Information
Caspases are cysteine proteases expressed as inactive precursors that mediate apoptosis by proteolysis of specific substrates. They cleave after aspartic acid residues and are divided into initiator and effector classes. Initiator caspases (e.g., Caspase-8, Caspase-9) activate effector caspases (e.g., Caspase-3, Caspase-7), leading to cellular apoptosis and collapse.
