Target Information
Isocitrate dehydrogenases catalyze the oxidative decarboxylation of isocitrate to 2-oxoglutarate. These enzymes belong to two subclasses: one utilizing NAD(+) and the other NADP(+).
Five isocitrate dehydrogenases have been identified:
- Three NAD(+)-dependent (mitochondrial matrix)
- Two NADP(+)-dependent (one mitochondrial, one cytosolic)
The cytoplasmic NADP(+)-dependent isozyme encoded by this gene is found in cytoplasm and peroxisomes and includes a PTS-1 peroxisomal targeting signal.
It plays roles in NADPH regeneration for intraperoxisomal reductions and reactions consuming 2-oxoglutarate, such as alpha-hydroxylation of phytanic acid.
This enzyme contributes significantly to cytoplasmic NADPH production.
