MAP2K5 (MEK5), a serine/threonine kinase, belongs to the MAP kinase family and specifically interacts with and activates MAPK7/ERK5.
MAP2K5 can be phosphorylated and activated by MAP3K3/MEKK3 or atypical PKC isoforms (aPKCs).
This signaling cascade is implicated in growth factor–stimulated cell proliferation and muscle cell differentiation.
The rs3743354 polymorphism in the MAP2K5 promoter may influence colorectal cancer (CRC) risk.
