Product Specific Information
- Heat-mediated antigen retrieval using a sodium citrate buffer (pH 6.0) is recommended for paraffin section staining.
- Suggested positive control: human prostate tissue.
- Sheep anti-human prostate specific antigen antibody recognizes PSA, a 33–34 kDa glycoprotein with chymotrypsin-like protease activity.
Target Information
Prostate specific antigen (PSA) is a chymotrypsin-like serine protease belonging to the kallikrein family, produced by prostate epithelial cells and abundant in seminal fluid.
PSA can be detected in the sera of patients with prostatic carcinoma, mainly complexed with alpha-1-antichymotrypsin (ACT).
A higher proportion of PSA-ACT complex is observed in prostate cancer compared to benign prostatic hyperplasia.
PSA is widely used to confirm prostatic acinar cell origin in primary and metastatic carcinoma and to differentiate from non-prostatic carcinoma mimics.
