Target Information

The OAS2 gene encodes a member of the 2-5A synthetase family, which plays a crucial role in the innate immune response to viral infection.
This protein is induced by interferons and catalyzes 2′-specific nucleotidyl transfer reactions using ATP to synthesize 2′,5′-oligoadenylates.
These molecules activate latent RNase L, leading to viral RNA degradation and inhibition of viral replication.
Three members of this gene family are clustered on chromosome 12, and alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
