Store vial at 4°C prior to restoration. For extended storage, aliquot contents and freeze at -20°C or below. Avoid cycles of freezing and thawing. Centrifuge product if not completely clear after standing at room temperature. This product is stable for several weeks at 4°C as an undiluted liquid. Dilute only prior to immediate use.

This antibody is specific for swine TNF alpha protein. A BLAST analysis suggests cross-reactivity with TNF alpha from swine sources based on 100% homology with the immunizing sequence. Partial reactivity is expected against TNF alpha from baboon based on 90% homology. Cross-reactivity with TNF alpha from other species has not been determined.

Target Information

TNF alpha is a multifunctional proinflammatory cytokine belonging to the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) superfamily. It is mainly secreted by macrophages and binds to receptors TNFRSF1A/TNFR1 and TNFRSF1B/TNFBR. TNF alpha regulates immune cells, cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, lipid metabolism, and coagulation.

It exists as a multimer of two, three, or five noncovalently linked units, but shows a single 17 kDa band following SDS-PAGE under non-reducing conditions. Knockout studies in mice indicate a neuroprotective function, and TNF alpha induces tumor necrosis when injected into tumor-bearing mice. It also plays roles in immune responses to bacterial, viral, parasitic, and fungal infections, and contributes to the necrosis of specific tumors. TNF alpha causes cytolysis or cytostasis of certain transformed cells, synergistically with interferon-gamma. It has been implicated in autoimmune diseases, insulin resistance, and cancer.
