Prohibitin은 진화적으로 보존된 유전자로, 세포 전반에 걸쳐 발현됩니다. 세포 증식의 음성 조절자로 작용하며 종양 억제 인자로 추정됩니다. PHB 유전자의 돌연변이는 산발성 유방암과 연관이 있습니다. Prohibitin은 서로 다른 3’ 비번역 영역 길이를 가진 두 가지 전사체로 발현되며, 긴 전사체는 증식 중인 조직과 세포에서 더 높은 수준으로 존재하여 전사 조절 RNA로 기능할 가능성이 있습니다.
