Target Information

Beta-catenin is a component of adherens junctions (AJs), crucial for epithelial cell layer formation by regulating cell adhesion and growth. It interacts with E-cadherin and alpha-catenin, linking the complex to the actin cytoskeleton.
Beta-catenin also associates with the adenomatous polyposis coli protein and participates in signaling pathways involving tyrosine kinases, phosphatases, and Wnt/Wingless.
It plays a key role in morphogenesis and is expressed in various hair follicle cells. Aberrant beta-catenin activity is implicated in pilomatrixoma, medulloblastoma, colorectal, ovarian, and other cancers.
In the nucleus, beta-catenin co-activates Lef/Tcf transcription factors to promote the expression of proliferation-related genes such as cyclin D and c-myc, contributing to tumorigenesis.
