Target Information
This gene belongs to the inositol polyphosphate-5-phosphatase (INPP5) family. It encodes a protein with:
- N-terminal SH2 domain
- Inositol phosphatase domain
- Two C-terminal protein interaction domains
Expression is restricted to hematopoietic cells. Tyrosine phosphorylation mediates its movement from the cytosol to the plasma membrane, where it hydrolyzes the 5’ phosphate from phosphatidylinositol (3,4,5)-trisphosphate and inositol-1,3,4,5-tetrakisphosphate. This affects multiple signaling pathways and functions as a negative regulator of myeloid cell proliferation and survival. Alternate splice variants encoding different isoforms have been characterized.
