Target Information
FBJ murine osteosarcoma viral oncogene homolog, commonly known as Cellular proto-oncogene Fos (c-Fos), belongs to the Fos transcription factor family and is encoded by the C-FOS gene located on chromosome 14.
c-Fos forms a heterodimer with c-Jun to create the Activator Protein-1 (AP-1) transcription factor, which regulates genes involved in cellular signal transduction, proliferation, and differentiation.
It is phosphorylated by various stimuli including growth factors and insulin at multiple sites. The ERK MAPK kinase is a known upstream regulator of phosphorylation at Threonine 232, which controls nuclear localization and transcriptional activity of c-Fos.
