Target Information
SLC25A5 and SLC25A6 are members of the mitochondrial carrier subfamily of solute carrier protein genes. These proteins function as gated pores that translocate ADP from the cytoplasm into the mitochondrial matrix and ATP from the mitochondrial matrix into the cytoplasm.
SLC25A5 forms a homodimer embedded in the inner mitochondrial membrane, and its suppressed expression has been shown to induce apoptosis and inhibit tumor growth.
SLC25A6 is implicated in the function of the permeability transition pore complex (PTPC), which regulates the release of mitochondrial products that induce apoptosis.
The human genome contains several non-transcribed pseudogenes of this gene.
