Target Information
Histones are basic nuclear proteins that form the nucleosome structure of chromosomal fibers in eukaryotes. Two molecules each of H2A, H2B, H3, and H4 form an octamer, around which approximately 146 bp of DNA is wrapped in repeating units called nucleosomes.
The linker histone H1 interacts with linker DNA between nucleosomes and contributes to chromatin compaction.
The HIST1H2BC gene encodes a replication-dependent histone H2B protein, located in the large histone cluster on chromosome 6. This transcript variant is intronless and lacks a polyA tail, instead containing a palindromic termination element.
The protein also exhibits antibacterial and antifungal activity.
