Target Information
Histones are basic nuclear proteins responsible for nucleosome structure in eukaryotic chromatin. Two molecules each of H2A, H2B, H3, and H4 form an octamer, around which ~146 bp of DNA is wrapped in repeating nucleosome units. The linker histone H1 interacts with linker DNA between nucleosomes and contributes to chromatin compaction.
The H1.4 gene is intronless, encodes a histone H1 family member, and resides in the large histone gene cluster on chromosome 6. Transcripts lack polyA tails and instead contain a palindromic termination element.
