이 단백질은 MAPK 초가족에 속하는 스트레스-활성화 단백질 키나아제(SAPK)로, 다양한 세포 외 자극에 반응하여 세포 표면에서 핵으로 신호를 전달합니다.
JNK는 세포 증식, 분화, 전사 조절, 발달 등 다양한 세포 과정에 관여하며, 스트레스 및 염증 신호에 의해 활성화됩니다.
JNK는 대체적 mRNA 스플라이싱으로 인해 10가지 이상의 이소폼으로 존재하며, 주요 형태는 JNK1과 JNK2입니다.
