Target Information
Integrin alpha 4 (CD49d, ITGA4) is a member of the integrin alpha chain family. Integrins are heterodimeric membrane proteins composed of alpha and beta chains. The alpha4 chain associates with either beta1 or beta7 chains. Ligands such as MadCAM, VCAM, and fibronectin bind to the alpha4 chain. MadCAM is the principal ligand for integrin alpha4beta7. HIV-1 envelope glycoprotein can also mimic MadCAM, binding to and signaling through integrin alpha4beta7, which serves as the gut mucosal homing receptor for peripheral T cells.
