Product Specific Information
This antibody was cross-adsorbed to phospho-tyrosine coupled to agarose before affinity purification using phospho-beta-Catenin (Tyr-86) peptide (without carrier). The antibody detects a 92 kDa protein corresponding to the molecular mass of beta-Catenin on SDS-PAGE immunoblots of A431 and Hct116 src transformed cells treated with pervanadate (1 mM for 30 min), but not in control cells.
Target Information
Beta-catenin is an adherens junction (AJ) protein involved in cell-cell adhesion and epithelial layer formation. It interacts with E-cadherin and alpha-catenin to anchor the complex to the actin cytoskeleton. Beta-catenin also associates with adenomatous polyposis coli protein and microtubules, participating in signaling pathways including tyrosine kinases, phosphatases, and Wnt/Wingless. It plays roles in morphogenesis and is expressed in various hair follicle cells. Pathological involvement has been noted in pilomatrixoma, medulloblastoma, colorectal and ovarian cancers, and other tumors. In the nucleus, beta-catenin co-activates Lef/Tcf transcription factors, promoting expression of cyclin D and c-myc, which drive cell proliferation and tumorigenesis.
