Target Information
MEPCE is an S-adenosyl-L-methionine-dependent methyltransferase that adds a methylphosphate cap at the 5′ end of 7SK snRNA, stabilizing it. It also functions as part of the 7SK RNP complex, which sequesters P-TEFb to prevent RNA polymerase II phosphorylation and transcriptional elongation. Additionally, the complex promotes snRNA gene transcription via interaction with the little elongation complex (LEC). MEPCE is required for 7SK RNA stabilization and RNP assembly, and interacts with LARP7 to occlude its catalytic center. [UniProt]
