Target Information
MEPCE is an S-adenosyl-L-methionine-dependent methyltransferase that adds a methylphosphate cap at the 5′-end of 7SK snRNA, stabilizing it. It also has non-enzymatic functions as part of the 7SK RNP complex, which sequesters the positive transcription elongation factor b (P-TEFb) to regulate RNA polymerase II activity. Within this complex, MEPCE stabilizes 7SK RNA and facilitates assembly by interacting with LARP7, occluding its catalytic center.
