Product Specific Information

  • Predicted to react with bovine, canine, chicken, human, mouse, non-human primate, rat, sheep, Xenopus, and zebrafish based on 100% sequence homology.
  • Specific for the ~45 kDa CREB phosphorylated at Ser133 in Western blots of rat brain lysates.
  • Immunolabeling can be blocked by lambda-phosphatase treatment.

Target Information

CREB (Cyclic AMP response element binding protein) is a 43 kDa basic/leucine zipper transcription factor that binds the cyclic AMP response element (CRE) and activates transcription in response to various extracellular signals such as neurotransmitters, hormones, membrane depolarization, and growth factors.
Activation of CREB depends on phosphorylation at serine 133 via MAP kinase pathways (p44/42, p90RSK, p38 MAPK, MSK1).
Phosphorylated CREB is the active transcription factor form, interacting with CREB binding protein (CBP) at serine 133.
CREB is involved in circadian rhythm regulation, adipocyte differentiation, and learning and memory.
In humans, the gene is located on chromosome 2q.
Dysfunction of CREB is linked to Alzheimer’s disease, histiocytoma, and soft tissue melanoma.
