Target Information
The MEF2D gene belongs to the myocyte-specific enhancer factor 2 (MEF2) family of transcription factors. These proteins regulate muscle and neuronal cell differentiation and development, and are modulated by class II histone deacetylases. Fusions with Deleted in Azoospermia-Associated Protein 1 (DAZAP1) have been observed in acute lymphoblastic leukemia cell lines, suggesting a potential role in leukemogenesis. The encoded protein may also be implicated in Parkinson’s disease and myotonic dystrophy. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
