Inward rectifier potassium channel은 세포 내부로의 칼륨 유입을 선호하며, 외부 칼륨 농도에 따라 전압 의존성이 조절됩니다. 이러한 inward rectification은 내부 마그네슘에 의한 outward 전류 차단으로 인해 발생합니다.
