Product Specific Information
The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is >95% (by SDS-PAGE).
Target Information
Catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) catalyzes the transfer of a methyl group from S-adenosylmethionine to catecholamines, including neurotransmitters dopamine, epinephrine, and norepinephrine. This O-methylation is a major degradative pathway for catecholamine transmitters.
COMT also plays a role in the metabolism of catechol drugs used for hypertension, asthma, and Parkinson’s disease.
Two forms exist in tissues: soluble (S-COMT) and membrane-bound (MB-COMT), differing at the N-terminus. Several transcript variants arise from alternative translation initiation sites and promoters.
