Target Information
Histones are basic nuclear proteins responsible for nucleosome structure in eukaryotes.
Each nucleosome consists of ~146 bp of DNA wrapped around an octamer of core histones (H2A, H2B, H3, and H4).
Chromatin fibers are compacted through interactions with linker histone H1.
The H3 gene is intronless and encodes a member of the histone H3 family.
Transcripts lack polyA tails and contain a palindromic termination element.
Located in a histone cluster on chromosome 1, this gene represents the telomeric copy among duplicated histone genes.
