Target Information
HMGB2 encodes a member of the non-histone chromosomal high mobility group protein family. These proteins are chromatin-associated and ubiquitously distributed in the nucleus of higher eukaryotic cells. In vitro studies have shown that HMGB2 efficiently bends DNA and forms DNA circles, suggesting a role in facilitating cooperative interactions between cis-acting proteins by promoting DNA flexibility. It is also implicated in the final ligation step of DNA end-joining processes in double-strand break repair and V(D)J recombination.
