Background
Keratin 8 (KRT8) 유전자는 인간 12번 염색체 장완에 위치하며 type II keratin 계열에 속합니다. Type I 및 type II keratin은 상피세포의 세포질 내에서 중간 필라멘트를 형성하기 위해 heteropolymerize합니다. Keratin 8은 주로 Keratin 18과 함께 단층 상피세포의 intermediate filament를 구성하며, 세포 구조 유지, 신호 전달 및 분화에 중요한 역할을 합니다. 이 유전자의 변이는 cryptogenic cirrhosis를 유발할 수 있습니다. 또한, 다양한 alternative splicing 변이체가 보고되었습니다.
