Target Information
The HAND2 protein is a member of the basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) family of transcription factors. It is one of two closely related HAND proteins that are asymmetrically expressed in developing ventricular chambers and play an essential role in cardiac morphogenesis. These proteins contribute to the formation of the right ventricle and aortic arch arteries and are implicated in congenital heart disease. HAND2 also plays important roles in limb and branchial arch development.
