Phosphoinositide-specific phospholipase C (PLC)는 수용체 매개 신호전달의 시작에 중요한 역할을 하며, phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate로부터 inositol 1,4,5-triphosphate와 diacylglycerol 두 가지 2차 신호전달 물질을 생성합니다.
PLC에는 다양한 이소형이 존재하며, PLC beta1, beta2, beta3, beta4, gamma1, gamma2, delta1, delta2, 그리고 PLCε 등이 포함됩니다.
PLC delta1은 칼슘 신호 증폭기로 작용하며, GTP-binding protein에 의해 활성화됩니다. 또한, transglutaminase II-mediated oxytocin receptor 및 alpha1B-adrenoreceptor signaling의 effector로 기능합니다.
PLC delta1은 뇌, 심장, 폐, 고환에서 높게 발현되며, 알츠하이머병(AD) 환자 뇌에서 비정상적으로 축적되어 AD 병리와 관련이 있을 가능성이 있습니다.
PLC delta2는 위암 및 장 상피세포 변형과 관련이 있으며, 그 발현 패턴은 악성 변형의 지표로 사용될 수 있습니다.
