Product Specific Information

MA5-12581 targets the Progesterone Receptor in IHC (P) applications and shows reactivity with human samples.
The immunogen is a formalin-fixed recombinant full-length A-form of the human progesterone receptor.
This antibody detects both A and B forms of the progesterone receptor from human and mouse in western blot, immunofluorescence, and immunohistochemistry.


Target Information

The progesterone receptor (PR) is a member of the steroid family of nuclear receptors. It mediates the physiological effects of progesterone, a key hormone in reproductive processes related to pregnancy establishment and maintenance.

PR exists as two isoforms:

  • Form A (94 kDa)
  • Form B (120 kDa)

PR-B is transcriptionally active, responsible for gene activation related to endometrial maintenance, pregnancy, and ovulation inhibition.
PR-A lacks 165 amino acids at the N-terminus, exposing a 140 amino acid inhibitory domain that represses steroid hormone transcriptional activity.

In its inactive state, PgR forms a multiprotein complex with heat shock proteins and immunophilins. Upon progesterone binding, conformational changes enable dimerization and DNA binding to progesterone response elements (PRE), initiating transcriptional activation.

A null mutation in the PGR gene leads to reproductive abnormalities.
