Product Specific Information
Store vial at -20°C prior to opening. Aliquot contents and freeze at -20°C or below for extended storage. Avoid cycles of freezing and thawing. Centrifuge product if not completely clear after standing at room temperature. Stable for several weeks at 4°C as an undiluted liquid. Dilute only prior to immediate use.
This antibody specifically reacts with a D variant sequence of human NAG-1 protein. BLAST analysis suggests partial reactivity with NAG-1 from chimpanzee and macaque (92% homology). Cross-reactivity with other species has not been determined.
Target Information
GDF-15 (also known as NAG-1) belongs to the TGF-beta cytokine family, involved in prenatal development, postnatal growth, and tissue remodeling. It is mainly expressed in the placenta and at lower levels in other tissues. Detected in amniotic fluid and elevated in sera of pregnant women, GDF-15 is implicated in gestation and embryonic development. It generally exhibits tumor suppressive activity and is produced in response to p53 activation. Serum GDF-15 levels correlate with progression of certain cancers, including colorectal, pancreatic, and prostate tumors.
