Target Information
The protein encoded by the PATZ1 gene contains an A-T hook DNA binding motif, which interacts with other DNA-binding structures to regulate chromatin modeling and transcription. The POZ domain mediates protein-protein interactions and transcriptional repression, while zinc-fingers form the DNA-binding domain. PATZ1 acts as a transcriptional repressor. In small round cell sarcoma, PATZ1 can fuse with EWS due to a chromosomal inversion on 22q, forming a chimeric EWS-PATZ1 protein. Four alternatively spliced transcript variants are known.
