Target Information

The PATZ1 protein contains an A-T hook DNA binding motif that binds to other DNA binding structures, playing an important role in chromatin modeling and transcription regulation. Its POZ domain functions as a site for protein-protein interaction and is required for transcriptional repression, while zinc-fingers comprise the DNA binding domain.
In small round cell sarcoma, PATZ1 is fused to EWS through an inversion of chromosome 22q, forming a chimeric sequence that includes the transactivation domain of EWS fused to the zinc finger domain of PATZ1. Four alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described for this gene.
