Target Information
This gene encodes an activating transcription factor belonging to the ATF subfamily and bZIP (basic-region leucine zipper) family. It regulates the expression of downstream target genes involved in growth, survival, and other cellular activities. The protein is phosphorylated at serine 63 by several kinases, enhancing its transactivation and transcriptional activities. Gene fusions with FUS (chromosome 16) or EWSR1 (chromosome 22) generate chimeric proteins implicated in angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma and clear cell sarcoma. A pseudogene exists on chromosome 6.
