Target Information
This gene encodes an activating transcription factor belonging to the ATF subfamily and bZIP (basic-region leucine zipper) family. It regulates downstream target genes involved in growth, survival, and other cellular processes. The protein is phosphorylated at serine 63 by multiple kinases, including PKA, CaMK I/II, MAPK, and CDK3, enhancing transactivation and transcriptional activity.
Fusion of this gene with FUS (chromosome 16) or EWSR1 (chromosome 22) produces chimeric proteins associated with angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma and clear cell sarcoma. A pseudogene exists on chromosome 6.
