Target Information

Estrogen Receptor beta (ER beta, NR3A2) is approximately 55 kDa, with isoforms ranging from 36–59 kDa. It was initially cloned from human testis and belongs to the steroid/thyroid hormone receptor superfamily.
ER beta functions as a ligand-activated transcription factor, binding estrogen and regulating gene transcription via estrogen response elements (EREs).
Two forms of estrogen receptor exist—alpha (ESR1) and beta (ESR2)—with ER beta showing similar estrogen affinity and potentially inhibiting ER alpha activity in reproductive tissues.
ER beta is expressed broadly across tissues and may act as a tumor suppressor, implicated in various diseases including prostate cancer, autism spectrum disorder, medullary thyroid carcinoma, De Quervain Disease, and cardiovascular risk.
