Target Information
Protein kinase C (PKC) is a family of serine- and threonine-specific protein kinases activated by calcium and diacylglycerol. PKC family members phosphorylate diverse protein targets and play key roles in cellular signaling pathways. They also act as receptors for phorbol esters, known tumor promoters.
Each PKC isoform has distinct expression and functions, including roles in B cell activation, apoptosis, endothelial proliferation, and intestinal sugar absorption. Mouse studies suggest involvement in neuronal regulation and stress-related behavior.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported.
