Target Information
Green fluorescent protein (GFP) from Aequorea victoria emits light through bioluminescence and is widely used as a reporter protein in gene expression studies across various organisms. As a fusion tag, GFP enables visualization of protein localization, movement, and subcellular dynamics. GFP is a 27 kDa monomeric protein that forms a fluorescent pigment autonomously, absorbing blue light at 395 nm and emitting green light at 508 nm. Its fluorescence is stable and species-independent, making it valuable for applications such as monitoring gene expression, studying protein localization, protein–protein interactions (yeast two-hybrid), and fluorescence energy transfer (FRET) assays.
