Target Information
Immunoglobulin classes share a basic four polypeptide chain structure composed of two heavy chains and two light chains (kappa, lambda; both approximately 22.5 kDa).
Kappa and lambda chains consist of variable and constant regions, which can be distinguished by their antigenic properties.
The kappa-to-lambda ratio is approximately 70:30.
Antibodies to the kappa light chain are useful for identifying leukemias, plasmacytomas, and certain non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas.
Demonstration of clonality in lymphoid infiltrates indicates malignancy.
