Target Information
Immunoglobulin classes share the same basic four-polypeptide chain structure of two heavy chains and two light chains (kappa and lambda, both ~22.5 kDa).
Kappa and lambda chains consist of variable and constant regions, differentiated by antigenic properties of the constant region.
The kappa-to-lambda ratio is approximately 70:30.
Antibodies to the kappa light chain are useful in identifying leukemias, plasmacytomas, and certain non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas.
Demonstration of clonality in lymphoid infiltrates indicates malignancy.
