Target Information
Protein Kinase C (PKC) isoforms are serine/threonine kinases involved in signal transduction pathways that regulate diverse physiological processes such as differentiation, proliferation, gene expression, brain function, membrane transport, and cytoskeletal organization.
PKC acts as a key regulator of cell cycle transitions, including G1 and G2 checkpoints, with effects depending on activation timing and isozyme type.
At least 12 PKC isoforms have been identified in humans: alpha, beta I, beta II, gamma, delta, epsilon, zeta, eta, theta, iota, lambda, and mu.
These isoforms differ in structure, localization, tissue distribution, and response to extracellular signals. PKC beta II, for example, is expressed in cardiac muscle, intestinal epithelium, kidney, and pancreas, and is implicated in cell cycle progression and cancer proliferation.
