Target Information

Protein Kinase C (PKC) isoforms are serine/threonine kinases involved in signal transduction pathways that govern a wide range of physiological processes including differentiation, proliferation, gene expression, brain function, membrane transport, and organization of cytoskeletal and extracellular matrix proteins.
Studies indicate PKC as a key regulator of cell cycle transitions, including entry, exit, and checkpoints. PKC-mediated control can be positive or negative depending on activation timing and isozyme type.
At least 12 PKC isoforms are identified in humans: alpha, beta I, beta II, gamma, delta, epsilon, zeta, eta, theta, iota, lambda, and mu. Isoforms differ in structure, localization, tissue distribution, and signal response. PKC beta II is expressed in cardiac muscle, intestinal epithelium, kidney, and pancreas, and is implicated in cell cycle progression and cancer proliferation.
