Target Information
Myosin phosphatase target subunit 1 (MYPT1), also known as the myosin-binding subunit of myosin phosphatase, is a regulatory component controlling actin–myosin interaction downstream of Rho GTPase.
RhoA activates Rho-kinase, which phosphorylates and inactivates MYPT1, thereby modulating myosin light chain (MLC) phosphorylation and smooth muscle contraction.
Overexpression of RhoA or activated RhoA in NIH 3T3 cells increases phosphorylation of MBS and MLC, indicating Rho’s inhibitory role on myosin phosphatase via Rho-kinase.
Several transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
