Target Information
Myosin phosphatase target subunit 1 (MYPT1), also known as the myosin-binding subunit of myosin phosphatase, is a component of the myosin phosphatase complex. This enzyme regulates the interaction of actin and myosin downstream of the Rho GTPase pathway. Active RhoA interacts with MYPT1 to control phosphorylation of myosin light chain (MLC), influencing smooth muscle contraction and cytoskeletal dynamics. Rho-associated kinase (Rho-kinase), activated by GTP-bound RhoA, phosphorylates and inactivates MYPT1, thereby inhibiting myosin phosphatase activity. Overexpression of RhoA or its active form increases phosphorylation of MBS and MLC. Several transcript variants encoding different isoforms of MYPT1 have been identified.
