Product Specific Information
The monoclonal antibodies AE1 and AE3 recognize many acidic and basic cytokeratin family members. Cytokeratins are intermediate filament proteins forming part of the cytoskeleton, expressed in epithelial cells and developmentally regulated. Tumors often express these proteins, aiding in the identification of neoplasm origin.
- AE3 antibody recognizes 65–67 triplet, 64, 59, 58, 56, 54, and 52 kDa proteins (cytokeratin 1–8).
- AE1 antibody recognizes 56.5, 54, 50, 48, and 40 kDa proteins (CK10, 14, 15, 16, 19).
Applicable to tissue samples from mouse, human, rat, primates, dog, cat, rabbit, and chicken.
Applications Reported: Immunohistochemical staining, immunocytochemistry, frozen and paraffin-embedded tissue staining.
Applications Tested: Immunofluorescent staining of formaldehyde-fixed or methanol-fixed MCF7 cells at ≤1 µg/mL.

Cytokeratin pan belongs to a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins with biochemical diversity, represented by at least 20 human epithelial polypeptides (40–68 kDa, pI 4.9–7.8). Expression patterns vary by epithelial type and differentiation stage, serving as markers for distinguishing epithelial malignancies.
Cytokeratin antibodies assist in tumor differential diagnosis via immunohistochemistry and are also used in cytopathology and flow cytometry. Their composition and expression vary with cell type, growth environment, and disease state, making them valuable in cancer research and tumor diagnostics.
