Target Information
Nitric oxide (NO) is an inorganic, gaseous free radical that acts as a signaling molecule between cells. It plays roles in vasorelaxation, neurotransmission, and cytotoxicity. NO production is mediated by nitric oxide synthase (NOS) enzymes, which catalyze the oxidation of L-arginine to produce L-citrulline and NO.
There are three main NOS isoforms:
- nNOS (type I) – neuronal
- iNOS (type II) – inducible
- eNOS (type III) – endothelial
All NOS isoforms contain calmodulin, NADPH, FAD, and FMN binding domains.
