Product Specific Information
The monoclonal antibody 67D3 recognizes human heart-type fatty acid-binding protein (H-FABP) of both natural and recombinant origin.
Target Information
Fatty acid binding proteins (FABP) are small (approximately 13–14 kDa) intracellular proteins with high tissue specificity. FABPs are cytoplasmic proteins that bind long-chain fatty acids and play an important role in their intracellular utilization. There are at least six distinct types of FABP, each showing specific tissue expression patterns.
Due to their small size, FABPs rapidly leak from damaged or dying cells, leading to increased serum levels. Liver FABP is a sensitive marker for liver cell damage both in vitro and in vivo. Damaged tissues often show reduced FABP presence, aiding histological identification. Additionally, liver FABP serves as a marker for rapid hepatocyte lysis in toxicology assays and for monitoring liver damage during and after transplantation.
