Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the neuron-specific calcium-binding protein family found in the retina and brain. It is associated with the plasma membrane and shares similarities with photoreceptor cell proteins that regulate photosignal transduction in a calcium-sensitive manner. This protein exhibits recoverin activity and calcium-dependent inhibition of rhodopsin kinase. It is identical to rat and mouse hippocalcin proteins and plays an important role in neurons of the central nervous system across various species.
