CDH4는 카드헤린 슈퍼패밀리에 속하는 고전적 카드헤린으로, 칼슘 의존적 세포 간 접착 당단백질입니다. 이 단백질은 다섯 개의 세포외 카드헤린 반복 영역, 막관통 영역, 그리고 보존된 세포질 꼬리로 구성되어 있습니다. 닭과 생쥐 연구에 따르면, CDH4는 뇌 분절화와 신경 성장에 중요한 역할을 하며, 신장 및 근육 발달에도 관여합니다. 또한, cadherin 2와 4의 안정적인 cis-이형이합체 형성이 보고되어, 기존의 동종 결합만 가능하다는 인식을 바꾸는 연구 결과가 있습니다. 세 가지 전사 변이체가 확인되어 서로 다른 동형 단백질을 생성합니다.
